Attukal Pongala

One of the world’s greatest all-women gatherings, Attukal Pongala, is a spiritual festival celebrated by the women by offering “Pongala” to the presiding deity of the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple. Pongala is a kind of porridge made with rice and jaggery in a clay pot on an open fire. Women from various parts of the country gather here for this ten day festival to make their offerings to their favorite Goddess.
