A carnival of flowers, music and feasts, Onam is celebrated with much pomp and pageantry by the capital city. Thiruvananthapuram welcomes Onam with vibrant illuminations and cultural performances. A Tourism Week is celebrated in the State, mainly in Thiruvananthapuram as part of this traditional festival that is celebrated to commemorate the home coming of the mythical King, Mahabali. The festivities of the capital city include stage shows, cultural nights, folk art, food stalls, and handicraft fairs. It concludes with a grand parade on the final day that showcases vibrant floats and decorated elephants.
