Located at a distance of 10 km from Thiruvananthapuram, this fishing harbour was once the only port along the southern coast of Kerala. Valiathura is famous for the 60-year-old 703 ft long pier that protrudes into the sea.
It is indeed a spectacular sight to watch Kerala's fishermen outdo the crashing waves by pushing their boats into the sea from a pier beyond wave point, and simultaneously throwing them into the sea in a perfect coordination and swimming towards it is never to be missed. People turn up at the Valiathura Pier, just to see them do this especially during monsoons.
